How HEARTGARD PLUS CHEWABLES FOR DOGS works:
Heartgard Plus contains ivermectin, a broad-spectrum antiparasitic medication used to prevent heartworms. Heartgard Plus also contains Pyrantel Pamoate, an anthelminthic, used to prevent roundworms and hookworms.
Directions for Use:
Heartgard (Ivermectin) is given once a month year round for the prevention of heartworm disease. The usual dose of ivermectin in dogs up to 25 lb is 68mcg – 1 tablet from blue pack, for 26-50 lb is 136mcg – 1 tablet from green pack and for 51-100 lb is 272mcg – 1 tablet from brown pack. Dogs over 100 lb are given a combination of the tablets.
Cautions when giving Heartgard Plus Chewables for dogs:
Heartgard Plus Chewables may cause sensitivities in herding dog breeds. Heartgard Plus Chewables should be chewed, not swallowed whole. The chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Make sure that your dog eats the entire dose. It is important to give your dog Heartgard Plus Chewables every month year-round. Do not skip winter months, as your dog may become infected if left unprotected. If you miss than two months of dosage, please consult with your veterinarian as to whether to continue medication.
Possible Side Effects of HEARTGARD PLUS CHEWABLES FOR DOGS:
The side effects of ivermectin are rare at the recommended dosage. Heartgard Tablets has a wide margin of safety for all sizes and breeds of dogs. It is approved for use in puppies as young as 6 weeks, small dogs regardless of weight, pregnant or breeding bitches, stud dogs, and Collies.
